Garfield Elementary is located at 10218 Arthur, Livonia, MI 48150. We are a neighborhood school that is dedicated to providing a quality education to all of our students. Garfield is comprised of approximately 340 students in grades K-4. In addition to Garfield's professional teaching staff, we have a media specialist and other professional support staff, including a school psychologist, school social worker, Title I interventionists, an Elementary Support Teacher, a speech and language therapist, a resource classroom teacher, a teacher consultant, and outreach, occupational and physical therapist, and homebound or hospitalized services.  Custodians, secretaries, paraprofessionals, and lunchroom personnel assist in keeping the building operating in an organized manner, keeping the building clean, serving nutritious food, and helping teachers and students. We have classroom teachers and additional support staff who are specially trained to meet every CHILD'S UNIQUE LEARNING NEEDS.  We are an AdvancEd Accredited school with a highly qualified staff that envisions a school where all students are respectful, responsible, and proficient in reading, writing, science, social studies, and math.

As we progress along the road to our vision we believe:

  • Students learn better in a safe, connected classroom culture. Thus, the Garfield community of staff, students and families will create a welcoming, safe environment for all members to learn. We will build relationships with one another, based on respect, trust, and timely communication.

  • Through a combination of care and high expectations, every child can experience early learning success in school and in life.

  • A culture of collaboration is essential to help Garfield staff, Garfield parents, and Garfield students work to their highest levels of effectiveness.  The responsibilities of each group are listed in our school compact.

  • Careful analysis of student progress helps determine instructional needs and instructional match. It is vital to deliver essential skill instruction at the student’s correct level of challenge.

At Garfield Elementary your child will receive a quality education.  In addition to a highly qualified staff and an active Parent Teacher Association, we have many special  programs here at Garfield that promote our mission, vision and beliefs. These include, but are not limited to: Leveled Literacy Intervention System, Title One Support, Motor Moms and Dads.

We encourage you to visit Garfield to see our amazing students, staff, and school!  A member of our staff will provide a guided tour upon request. For more information, please take time to visit our website or give us a call at 734-744-2715 if you would like more information!

We are also excited to announce that Garfield Elementary will be housing two Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) classrooms starting this fall. GSRP is a state funded, half- or full-day preschool program for children who are four years old by December 1 and for families who qualify for the program. Classrooms are capped at 18 children, with up to 3 adults in each room. Availability for this year may be very limited, but certainly in the future this is a wonderful opportunity for our Garfield families.
